2002 MAUI INTERNATIONAL DRUMS FOR PEACE CONCERT
After returning from the 2001 Aloha Tour to Japan, the memories of the Hiroshima Peace Park still weighed heavy on tour members as they saw the destruction of the city and the loss of thousands of lives through the museums displays. The 911 tragedy fueled the commitment of the group to support peace events and a concert was created in August 2002 that included a diversity of drumming from various cultures. Hawaiian, African, Korean, Chinese, Native American and Japanese drumming were performed to share the diversity of cultures on Maui and honored those who perished in the 911 disaster.
The group annually performs at the Hiroshima/Nagasaki Peace event held on Maui and at other community peace events to always remember that peace can be the mission and goal – it begins with each of us.
